Here are a few images from my photo shoot with Sarah Vied, traveller and writer of the travel blog. Check out her work at http://uncagedtraveler.com .... She is currently in the Czech Republic, but soon she'll be in moving down the road to Taiwan... Don't you just love her green eyes??
Poor kid, he came in with a nice head of beautiful hair and then he left all bald. He was one of dozens of new little monks that joined the Buddhist monastery for the summer. I guess that summer camp in Thailand is a bit different than that of the West.

*These portraits were taken in a movie theater with a simple bike light used as a spotlight. :) Try using non-photography lights for your portraits, you'll be surprised at what fun things that you can get! It's Monday here in South Korea, early in the morning. I'm drinking my Camomile tea and my brain is wandering off to its list-making land and beginning to wonder. how I will begin to do all the things that I need to do this week? The week ahead is full. So much to do! But my goal for this week is to not focus on the tasks that need to be done, but enjoying the fact that I get to do them. That I'm blessed enough to have the ability AND that people want me to help them do their projects and value the skills that God has given me. And that these skills will make their lives better. It is really quite awesome when I think about it that way.. :)Happy Week before Christmas everyone! Listen to so much Christmas music that your ears want to explode and drink so much egg-nog that your stomach wishes to do the same. :)
I did a little Seoul excursion this past Saturday, and I was greeted by one of the most beautiful places I've yet to know in Korea. This is officially my new favorite place in Seoul. It's called Gaemi Mauel, directly translated as the Ant City because it is a little town set on a hill. I probably love it so much because it feels nothing at all like the big, gray city of Seoul. It is full of color, hidden in the hills from the madness that Seoul is so well known for. I met some high school girls on my way down who escaped the city life and their nasty high school exams to take a day's vacation. We chatted about how much we disliked exams and how much we loved, loved, loved all kinds of food! It was such a lovely Saturday. The sun was setting, and it was threatening to rain, so I didn't get to explore all the nooks and crannies, but perhaps next weekend? I am itching to do a portrait session there. It would be amazing!
Meet the Harbert family. They have been living in South Korea for almost 2 years, and they've loved it, but they are currently packing their bags and saying goodbye to Korealand and their favorite food, a Mr. Kimchi (hahaha). I lie, them and Mr. Kimchi are well, you see, they just haven't found the beauty in all the garlic and months of fermentation. I don't understand personally, what is not to love about a food that is full of rotten garlic? I mean, it makes your breath rancid for days. It's fantastic! ;) They much prefer Guacamole, which you all know, the Mexican in me applauds. But before they said goodbye to our little country of bitter winters and fermentation and head off to their next adventure, they asked me capture a bit of their family in Asialand. I am so happy they did. It was a perfectly sunny day, and it didn't feel like work at all, much more like I was hanging out with friends and taking pictures of their cool kids., who happen to like mohawks, skateboards, Ben - 10 and tutus! A photographer's dream! (yes, I admit, I did a little happy dance when I heard that Noah had a mohawk) Thank-you guys for the opportunity to photograph your family and best of luck on your next adventure! May it be full of many blessings.view my portfolio here
Engrishy Class was canceled today! Only picnics and lollipops in Korealand today! The little munchkins are truly adorable. I think I may miss them quite a bit when I say farewell.
Sunday afternoon in the middle of the Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival a mass of Koreans began to form, mouths were gaping, hundreds of cellphones were out, all busily snapping pictures, and they weren't looking at beautiful cherry blossoms.. Oh no, they cared nothing for the millions of flower-filled trees, they were more enthralled with the massive blue eyes of all the Taylor children. You would have thought that the Olsen twins had arrived or perhaps Hannah Montana had just come on stage... All the grandmothers wanted their pictures taken with the beautiful waygooks (foreigners) and the grandfathers wanted to shake their hands. And the funny thing is that all this madness is just a normal Korean day for the Taylors. Korean made celebrities. :)Want your Korean life documented? contact me @ ingekathleen@gmail.com view my portfolio here
Sunday Morning, just as we were getting ready to eat massive amounts of French Toast at BUTTERFINGERS, the best breakfast place in all of Seoul, Seo Yeon marched up to us, a group of 6 very funny, very strange foreigners, and decided to join us for an hour long chat about life., Well actually, all she really wanted to do was laugh at us and our funny faces. :) I can't blame her because our faces are ..eh...Well. there IS a reason, I don't put my face up on this blog very often. I'm protecting the little ones. You should thank me and send gifts to show your appreciation. *Don't worry, the gifts don't need to be in the form of money, just fruit. I have a gift registry at fruitisamazing.com ~ I'm not picky, Pineapples, Pears, Mangos, let your imagination run wild! :)view my portfolio here
Happy January 31! How has the first month of 2011 treated you all? I hope splendidly.. I was lucky enough to spend half of the month in the good ole US of A! Yes be jealous. I spent 100% of my time relaxing, talking, eating, and drinking coffee (about 50% of the time) with my awesome family and friends. It has been a splendid year so far. Despite it being too cold for any human, I feel like the year holds so much potential. It's going to be a great one. I'm getting all tingly thinking about it... oh wait never mind the tingle is coming from the frostbite starting in envelop my poor tootsies.. booo... ahh well who needs em when you can think of all the amazingness this year will offer!
Odd....My tone of writing is a bit too cheery for the above image of death and oppression., yes? What can I say? My camera seems to have it's screwballish dark moods.. I try to cheer him up, but it can't help it. Graveyards are so very fascinating to him. They are just fantastically creepy to photograph in. Would you not agree?
Well enjoy February and all the crazy things to ensue! Talk soon :)
I'm the lucky girl to have these two as my brothers. They really are quite the bomb dot coms. I'm not really sure why they even hang out with me or are my facebook friends. Do you know dear reader? I'm mean really I'm the geeky, huge camera toting, Korean, Mexican sister who can't seem to stay in the US of A long enough to do a load of laundry. Do you think they bother to put up me because I bribe them with food? Yes, yes that must be it!
Food really is a magic tool of manipulation. If you look at any great feat or massive betrayal in all of human history you know what is the motivation for it? A tasty meal. You don't believe me? Well let me explain.. Do you know the real reason Moses had the strength to cross the Red Sea? Not because he was a super human, no, no, it was because there was a pipping Chick-fil-a Chicken Biscuit waiting on the other side, Two of them! I swear it is true just look it up in the Bible. Totally there. It's there. very much there :)
And do you know why Brutus betrayed/killed his super tight friend Julius Caesar? Not because he was power hungry. He was just hungry and his mother promised to make him the best TexMex food known to man WITH extra cheese and cilantro if he stuck it to Caesar. Yes, yes, I know that they were Roman and didn't live in Texas or Mexico. And Texas wasn't even founded until much later, but you see his mother was so ahead of her times, she knew TexMex food before it hit Texas. And so there you have it my friends, the enchilada is what did Mr. Caesar in. Poor guy. You know if they taught the true history behind Caesar's fall in schools these days, more kids would stay awake in school. And that's what's wrong with the education system these days! Hey but at least I have cool brothers. I hope you do too or at least a good cup of hot chocolate with a little cinnamon in it :)
