Photography Styling Challenge #4: Morning

I admit I almost chickened out and skipped this challenge fearing I wouldn't have time or creativity to do it, but luckily I have a loving husband who gives me a good kick in the rear when I get overly dramatic.October's styling challenge was titled "Morning." A wonderful theme, because despite common sentiment I think there are so many lovely things associated with the morning. Morning is the best time of day. It is so fresh, clean, new and brings a day full of possibilities. And what better to display the newness and freshness of the day than a spot of fresh tea? I first thought I would take a picture of coffee, because it is so very delicious but coffee to me gives me a feeling of coffee breath and the morning jitters rather than the freshness and cleanness of the morning. So in the spirit of the freshness of the morning, I chose to depict morning by brewing a cup of green tea and going outside to play with my camera. Here is what came out of it. I really wish that I could use my handy photoshop for this challenge to put some delicious contrast and color balancing into these photographs, but alas our rules say that we can't, but not to worry. Next time I think that I'll break out my flash and see if I can get the contrast I crave without Photoshop. Be sure to check out the other Morning photographs by clicking the links below. And please comment a lot on our photos and give us hints on how we could have done better, because what is a challenge unless you learn and grow?

So around 4 pm, I got up the guts to go into a Japanese noodle restaurant that had beautiful Jesus-light streaming in.This guy really hated his picture being taken, but I insisted and he caved in when I said that I would only take a couple of pictures of him.

Photography Styling Challenge #2: Table Setting

This month's challenge was table setting, and because last month I did a 15 day Juice Fast and I'm learning to eat more and more vegetables I decided that it was only natural that I made a table setting of only vegetables. I wanted to make food art. All I needed was red cabbage, white cabbage, green pepper, carrots, a good knife, and a whole lot of patience. In the end, I was pretty happy with the results. It wasn't perfect, but I tried a new kind of photography and as a result I have more ideas for another food-filled photograph.. :-)Here are the Rules again..

Rules

1. No editing can be done to the photo other than edge cropping.

2. Camera equipment and tools of any variety may be used to assist in the photography.

3. Select 1-5 of your best photos, of the same subject matter, to be blogged.

4. The same concept must be blogged at the same time by all participants.

5. The only text acceptable for each photo is your watermark.

6. All shoots must be newly styled as of the first Monday of the month.

Introducing The Next Challenge! A Photography Styling Challenge

Juicing myself into a vegetable was successfully completed. Now, I need something else to challenge me.. What is up next up on the challenge board? I'm going to join a Photography Styling Challenge with some fellow bloggers. It will be incredibly fascinate. You just wait!

----

This challenge originated from My-Van Dang from Redesigned By M.

What is it?

Here is here description of the photography challenge from Redesigned By M.

Inspired by all the photo challenges out there, I thought I’d create one of my own.  This photo challenge is two parts:

1. Being my own stylist for a photo shoot.

2. Learning how to use my camera to its fullest extent.

I love styling photo shoots.  It infuriates me when I look at photos and see details that were overlooked during the photography session.  I wanted to create instances that I could hone my skills and eye for styling, that were more formal, more elaborate, and more visual than my day to day blog posts.

As for the second point: I love doing my Photo Walks, but those are mostly centered around outdoor photos because they involve getting to know my new city better.  I thought if I could create my own shoots that I could style, I’d be able to have more practice with interior photography.

Here’s how it works:

Rules

Frequency

Once a month, on the first Monday.

Concepts*

(in this order)

1. Food

2. Table setting

3. Wall vignette

4. Morning

5. Bedroom

6. Order (Organization)

7. Chaos(Caveat: Must use at least 3 of the objects from “Order” photo shoot.)

8. Patterns

9. Fashion

10. Light

11. Living Room

12. Personal

*All concepts are open to interpretation of the photographer. We have this month to think of ideas for our first concept and then we post our first photo shoot on July 1st!  We’re both very excited about this new challenge and hope you will be, too.  If you choose to participate, please let us know in the comment below so we’ll be sure to include your blog in the first post.

Who is part of the Challenge?

Redesigned By M - A wonderful blog by My-Van Dang, about design, organization, gardening, etc... with many more tips on how to make your life easier and clutter-free.Redlovinpixie - Ginny, from London living in LA, who blogs about things from interiors and knitting to food and dogsAt the Corner of Happy and Harried - Anjana, from India blogs about cooking, baking, and home decor, with a little bit of DIY crafting. My Food Tapestry - An absolutely delightful food blog by Namrata---So tomorrow, August 5th I'll be joining the challenge, a month late, but better late then never, right? Well that is if you're not too, too late. Because if you're too, too late all of the good food is gone, and that really defeats the purpose of going at all. :-)The subject of August? Table Setting... Oui that might be difficult, because I'm not much of table-setting kind of girl... But we'll see :-) Wish me luck!

Juice Fast Challenge : Day 15 - Before and After Photos

I apologize for the delay in publication. You see after 15 days of juicing, something strange happened to us.  That is why I’ve taken so long to type this post. My hands aren’t quite what they used to be...We have changed.... (see the photo below)

Before and After Picture

© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, love, norman rockwell style, geeky hip portraits, concept photography, Juice Fasting, portraits, Inge Hooker, Juan Job, South Korea, camera love, Healthy in Korea, Zucchini,After 15 days of juicing, Juan and I turned into into Zucchinis! Poof! That’s right! We’re done for! So much juice that we are no longer humans. We are only vegetables. My father always told me that I would turn into a vegetable if I watched too much TV, but he never warned me about drinking too much juice! If I had only know, I would have stopped at day 14 and drunken a whole cup of coffee and a pound of dark chocolate to retoxify my body! But alas! We are so clean that we've turned into vegetables on day 15! Zucchinis at that! Why couldn’t I have least turned into a more charming vegetable, like an eggplant or a curvy red pepper?!?! God, why????Ok, let’s say perhaps, I’m kidding or being dramatic and perhaps we are really not zucchinis, but I think we would be if we had continued on to day 16! That might have been our fate, but thank goodness we didn’t continue!A Tip of the Day: The end will come, so just keep going. When the end comes, it is so sweet and well worth it!

 --------

The Story of Day 15:

Oh their must really be a God! Because we’ve made it all the way to day 15! You know, I don’t think that this day would come. The final days creeped by, every day really seemed like a year. I was sure that I was getting old and gray by how slow day 14 went...  But alas! the sun went down and finally, oh, finally, it creeped back up over the Korean hills! We were welcomed by a chorus of angels singing from Heaven. Today, our final day of our juice fast, we get to start a transition into chewing food!Today, I get to crunch sweet melons and apples and feel the fresh crisp of watermelon and the feel the texture of kiwi on our tongue! I think today that I will appreciate texture more than I ever thought possible! How did today go? In the morning, we got up and had a nice snack of melon and then later had a big glass of green juice. Those smart expert people say that the key to transitioning is to do it slowly and ease your body into it.Going slowly isn’t so easy, but you have to try or all of your results may just go out the window! So perhaps to insure that you go slowly, buy a lock for your refrigerator or just get a lock on your jaw to force yourself not to go overboard.. hehehe..For lunch, I made tomato soup by feeding tomatoes, garlic and onions into the juicer and then I mixed the pulp and the juice together and warmed it up over the stove. That was nice. :) And then finally for dinner we went  to church, and they ordered us a vegetable soup from a Chinese restaurant... I should have know a Chinese restaurant would be nothing but, Trouble!.. I was transitioning perfectly until dinner. When I ate the soup, it was processed and oily and it just killed me. After I ate it, I felt like I was RE-toxifying... Noooooo!!!! I got mad at myself for going too quickly. I could feel my body hating me for the yucky soup I gave it...I felt like a failure, like I had dropped the ball and the world would surely end! What have I done????But not to worry, dear friends, I didn’t let Dramatic Inge take over my body for too long, in the end this mistake made me decided that I wasn’t ready to retoxify my body again after all of the hard work. I realized that needed to have a better plan of transition. So for the next 7 days, the plan is for me to eat about 90% raw foods (salads, fruits, vegetables, and nuts and good oils) and drink at least 32 oz of juice a daily to continue to detox. I don’t want to go back to my old ways of eating. Even though they weren’t terrible, juicing has improved my health, and I want to continue to see improvements. After 7 days of 90% raw, I may do more of a 70% raw and 30% cooked food diet combination. I think that is a sustainable lifestyle for me. A few years back, my mom, who is a braver soul than I, went 100% raw for about 2 or 3 years. She’s truly super woman. I remember thinking how amazing her skin looked. She looked younger by at least 5 years after following this eating lifestyle. All of her wrinkles on her face went away.I, on the other hand, I like a bit of cooked food here and there. I’m of the camp of people who think that food is both physical and psychological and even though physically you might not need cooked foods, at times it is nice to enjoy a nice warm bowl of soup in the winter just for the comfort factor. So I’m going to do 70%, 30% with a juice every day and see how that works for me.

Results:

Ok, so enough with our adorable faces. I'm sure you're sick of them by now. The question you may be wondering is....Did Juicing for 15 days really work? and is it worth it? We would both say YES! We are both so glad we did it, and so glad that it is OVER!For me (Inge) I noticed that my digestion has improved, my energy is better (I crave juice more and coffee less), my skin is so much softer, and I feel healthier. If I can get these results from juicing, than I shan’t complain about making juice. Also, my knowledge of the body has really increased during the past month. I know so much more about nutrition and taking care of yourself properly. Also something a little interesting I learned is that I need to be more efficient and organized. Though I’m a very determined, hard working person, I realized that I work hard inefficiently. Which is dumb. I'm learning that I can do things better in less time. I’m taking tips from one of the most efficient people that I know, my most organized efficient friend My-Van the writer of Redesigned by M. She’s an interior designer and an efficiency genius! You should check her blog out. Especially if you’re about to move houses. She has amazing tips on how to move a house easily and efficiently. Moving Tips.On a side note: I would say that I haven’t received ALL of the results that I want, just yet. Nor learned all I want to about nutrition. This motivates me to keep study nutrition, continue juicing and eating more raw foods so that I see more improvements in my skin, my nails and energy levels..Juan has noticed that his skin is softer; his immune system is stronger; he feels healthier; his digestion is better; he lost weight 5.5 kilos or 12 pounds which after after he gained back his water weight he is now 3 kilos or 6.6 pounds lighter - not bad for 15 days, eh?What is even more interesting is that both of our taste buds have started to change. We now are craving more healthy, fresh foods. Overly processed foods are less appetizing. The pizza, the coca-cola, the ice cream, the coffee, don’t seem so tempting. This is amazing, because this means it will be easier for us to stay healthy in the future, because our bodies are now asking us for good food, we don’t have to force it to eat a salad. We actually crave one. Additionally this tells me that juicing isn’t just a fad diet to starve and deprive yourself, it is actually a way to infuse your body with nutrients that rejuvenate and reprogram it to WANT to eat good. Crazy, right? It’s like we’ve tricked our bodies... Mwahahahaha! In the end, all the tears and pain were worth it.  And we’ll continue to juice every morning and every once in awhile we may go on 5 or 10-day juice fasts when we feel like we especially want to rest and clean-up our system.  We will just have to make sure that we get plenty of rest and stay far away from other humans while we’re doing this again.. We aren’t the peppiest people when we are juicing. hehehe. So are you ready for the Cliche of the Day???Good! here it is ---> If we did it, you can do it. Lame saying, I know! But I’m actually telling you the truth. Because juicing in Korea was so hard for us that if you live in the USA or a tropical country, juice fasting will be easy for you! Here in South Korea, we faced a multitude of obstacles and still made it. We don’t have a car, we had to carry all of our vegetables from the store to home, AND our refrigerator is a little bigger than the size of a college dorm refrigerator and our kitchen isn’t much bigger. On top of that vegetables and fruits are generally more expensive and more difficult to find. All of this means that juicing is super inconvenient for us, but if you think being healthy is inconvenient, try being in sick in a hospital bed. Just a thought. So drink your juice and quit making excuses!

Final Question:

Do you want to be healthier? If yes, then ask yourself what can I start to eat to heal and improve my body? What foods and juices will give my body nutrition to heal and build my body?Well that is all for our juicing adventure for now, but not to worry. There are many more adventures to come for Juan and myself, as long as we can learn to drive better. :-)© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, motorcycle driving, Inge Hooker, Juan Job, South Korea,

Quote of the Day:

Juan: (he offers me 50$ cash)Me: No, I don't want the money, I can't buy anything!!!!!Him: What do you mean?Me: I can't buy any coffee! (Wahhhh!)

Story of the Day:

Him: Awh.. poor baby, You’re finally normal, like me! he said while jumping in circles and laughing..He was so excited because this was probably the first time I had expressed any of my cravings to him Before he felt like he was the only one, but I joined his lament party today. Ha! But we didn’t have much more time to party because I was off to teach class.Today was hard mentally. You would think once you reach day 14, you’d be excited and ready to push through to the end! but not quite. I was mopey and Juan was glad that I was finally having a rough time.. hehehe. Since all of the other days it was him. Today he is transitioning into food, by eating salads and things so his digestion system is ready to digest all the chicken that he wants it to. But I alas! have decided not to start my transition until 15 day and start eating at a point on the 15th day, fruit or something.Yet today is not day 15, it is only 14, and oh my! it seems like it will never end. You know it was only 10:30 in the morning, I want to curl in bed and mope, so that the day would pass. No, I’m not that tired. My energy is fine. I’m hungry, but I don’t want to juice again, and where is my food? An egg would be nice. I think I might have starved today, if Juan hadn’t made me juice. I was not about to juice any more. Isn’t it funny how attached we get to chewing food? Ridiculous and Curious its effect. Even when we're not hungry. I should do a study about this.People ask me what I miss the most, and I say salad with salmon. Ha! I’m too healthy I think. People look at me like I’m crazy.., but then I whisper to them...and I would really like a cappuccino and chocolate too. :-)It's a cranky day but tomorrow, Foood! or at least a little bit of it.Juan's Cranky too today; he wants Pollo! (Chicken)©www.ingekathleen.com/blog, cranky, juice fast, juice cleanse, I want Chicken, I want Pollo,

Transition:

Ok so any more tips that I've found on transition? After you make a plan... Go slowly, and eat the foods that you've been juicing. Only eat them in raw form. Also continue to juice for 2-3 meals. This will make it easier on your stomach to digest. We've been juicing fruits and vegetables, so these same fruits and vegetables we should eat and juice too. and eat in small portions. This period will last for about 3 days - 7 days and then after this time you can add one light protein to your diet. e.g. 1 piece of chicken or fish for one meal.. and then wait 3 more days to add 1 more portion.Resources: Getting off of a Fast from Just On Juice.com and Article #2 from IZO Cleanse.com

Story of the Day:

I'm Happy! Why? Not only is it day 13 but.... Guess What? I found in E-mart today? CILANTRO!!! What is the big deal? You don’t know!?! Oh that’s right, you probably don’t live in South Korea. Do you know that I’ve been looking for cilantro for the past 3 years in Korea, and the only place I could find it was in Army Bases and remote International markets?..But now Korea is finally Mexicanizing or Thailandizing themselves! Finally.. Wow! Even though it is 3x as expensive as the USA. I was so happy that I almost bought all. YUM! If you’ve ever lived in South Korea, you’ll understand my exuberance for finding cilantro in a grocery store here. It’s unheard of, but now the truth of Cilantro is spreading.. Now this made my day! Look isn't it beautiful..?© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, juice fast, juicing in Korea, Cilantro, vegetables© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, juice fast, juicing in Korea, Cilantro, vegetables Today hasn't been quite been as exciting for Juan... it has been a rough one actually, and I’m hoping that it all will speed up. Today, I have good energy, but it wasn’t the same for Juan. He’s not experiencing as easy of a ride. He really misses food and CHICKEN! Like I said yesterday, we’re thinking that perhaps that we might need to switch it up as far as the greens go, because he doesn’t feel the energy and he can’t focus. There is a green that I got recommended today called Angelica, but upon further research, I’ve found that this herb can be very good for your health but also have very dangerous side-affects. So I’ll skip buying that one. Thank-you!We had our Bible study in our house it was good, Chan Mi cooked an amazing-looking chicken curry and we smelled and watched everyone eat it as we nursed our juice. Live is hard, eh? But it is better with cilantro. That is for sure :-)

Juice Fast Challenge : Day 12 - How Do you Start to Eat Again? Step One = Make a Plan

© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, salad, juice fast, avocado, blueberry, health in Korea, delicious salad Day 12 is upon us, and it get me dreaming of food. See the picture above, a salad that I made last summer. Yum! I really do like food, and cooking and all of the yummy, chewy things that come with it. So with all of this food in my head, it got me to start to think about how will we start to eat again? I mean I haven't forgotten how to chew.(At least I hope not). but rather how do you introduce food back into your diet, when, the amount and what kinds of foods?Upon research here is what I'm finding.. First everyone says make a health plan before you get off the fast. Why? So that when you get off the fast you don't go crazy and retoxify yourself after all of your hard work! That would be just nuts! It is best if you set up goals of how you want to continue getting healthy then you're ready to go when you're coming off of the fast. A health plan includes things like exercise, what foods will you eat, how many juices you'll drink a day, even planning for when you'll eat your favorite unhealthy foods. eg. exercise 30 minutes a day, drink on green juice in the morning, only eat ice cream 1 time a month, etc.The idea of this juice cleanse is to start your body a better path, after the 15 days, you're not done with the journey, you've just begun it. You don't have to stop eating your favorite foods completely, but reduce the amount you eat them and increase the fresh raw vegetables and fruits in your diet. That is the key, give you body more of an ability to regenerate itself with vitamins and minerals and nutrients and lots of water..

My Plan?

Well I feel like we do a pretty good job of eating healthy already, and we exercise too, but we could tweak a few things to make it better.  I think that we could add more fresh vegetables into our diet and I want to have a green juice every morning and maybe once or twice a week have a dinner of juice instead of food.I was thinking about how I accomplish this because it takes more time to make juice and prepare fresh vegetables than other meals, and I need to wash and cut the vegetables once or twice a week and put them in plastic bags to have them ready for use. Little things like that will save me so much time. Because it is sooo time consuming to have to cut up vegetables every day, 2 or 3x a day. So instead, I just have a veggie chopping party at my house, every week. :-) Anyone what to come?Tomorrow I'll discuss, what foods that you want to introduce first and how to do it! ^^

Story of the Day:

Today was good, it was easy. Even though we didn’t have enough veggies to juice for the morning, both Juan and I felt good and we were able to go to work a little less than full stomachs, and still make it through the day with a lot of energy. Exactly one week ago, I was about dead when I had to work, even though I had drank my full liter of juice. My body is really acting better and my energy is quite constant. This is exciting. I hated having low energy, but today the energy was great. The only sad part of today was when a friend saw me in a cafe and bought me a coffee without my knowledge and I had to sit there and watch the poor sad coffee go to waste :-( Then a student invited me out to a cafe today, and I couldn't order what I wanted. I got pure kiwi juice. It was fine, but a nice hot almond milk would have been perfect.. Oh well, I guess you have to make sacrifices for your health.. But why couldn't I get random free coffees next week? Dear God,.. Can I get a random free coffee next week? That would be nice. Just one. I promise that is all I need,  Thank you and Amen. For Juan though it is much harder for him to sustain the energy levels. We're not sure why, but it could be that we need other greens or we should use other vegetables for our juices that we're not. I think that is the downside of trying to do this in Korea. Your options are limited, so it makes it difficult to experiment with many types of green or vegetables. The variety of vegetables is growing, but it is still quite limited and hard to access. But long story short the past couple of days have been really hard on him, and he swears he won't do a complete juice fast again, and that all he wants is chicken. Only 3 more days!Juan:Juice: 2 Liters / Water: 1 liter Weight: 5.5 kg less than the start  Energy: Consistent.. Mood: Stable Hunger: Normal Detox Symptoms: None Cheats: None Cravings: Pollo (Chicken), PastaIngeJuice: 1.5 --> 2 liter Liters / Water: 1 liters  Weight: 3-4 kg less than the start  Energy: Quite good, every day it gets better Mood: Pretty good mood all day. the weather was rain but nice today too. Hunger: A good bit, but that is just because in the morning we didn’t have the produce to make much juice Detox Symptoms: None really, they seem to be easing for now Cheats: Nothing Cravings: Something like warm almond milk with a little bit of honey. That would be nice.

Juice Fast Challenge : Day 10 - What to do with Juice Pulp? 1 of 2

Quote of the Day

Juan: “Baby, what day is it today?” Me: It is Sunday, Baby. Him: No, I mean what day is it?” Me: Oh, it is the 21st of July. Him: No, what day of the fast are we on, when can we eat? Me: Oh, we’re on Day Ten, 5 more days left. Him: Gracias, Ah Dios!!!

Story of the Day:

Day 10 has arrived and the end of our fast seems close at hand. It makes me excited! 5 more little days of liquids. Though all of this juicing has been fun, and I plan to continue to drink juices, man, I do like to eat and cook. However, on the more the positive side, since I've started to cooked steamed vegetables for Juan at night to curb his detox symptoms, I get to cook, and he he feels less detox too. Which even though I don't get to eat, just the simple act of cooking relaxes me. I'm weird I know.Today was good, good, good, I had energy, my skin feels softer, I went for a run, to church and then Juan and I went to church and then went to the mall to catch the yearly blowout sale at UNIQUE-LO, it was amazing. We bought the whole store, and it only cost pennies. I am so happy to finally start feeling more energy. The only hiccup in our juicing today was that we were out all afternoon, and we had no time to come home to juice in between church and shopping. We opted to split a Strawberry Banana Smoothie without sugar at Smoothie King, yes I know, it was not true juice and it wasn't the perfect choice, but it wasn't a bad one. Don't hate. :-) I confess that it was delicious though. I think the coldness of the smoothie though hit our stomachs a little weird. It's interesting how when you're eating/drinking all natural for a while, you are able to immediately notice how temperature or synthetic foods affect your body. The body is crazy and amazing. My topic for Sunday is Juice Pulp.. What do you do with it? Good question. One of my friends told me that she stopped juicing because she felt guilty about wasting the pulp. But let me tell you something! Don't stop juicing because of this! Why? Because there are so many things that you can do with this pulp! What do we do with it? Absolutely nothing! We throw it away before the fruit flies get it. But don’t worry, this doesn’t have to be your fate you can be more resourceful than us. I'll give you some ideas. But first some pretty pulp pictures, because no post is complete without pretty pulp pictures.© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, juice pulp recipes, juice cleanse, carrot pulp, Juice Fasting, South Korea

Juice Pulp Uses

1) Use it for your compost pile in your garden (Juicing Compost Instructions)2) Feed it to your chickens3) Mix it with your dog's dry food for extra taste and vitamins4) The best idea? Eat it! Here's some recipes!Beet-Carrot SaladCrackersBanana BreadCarrot-Coconut DessertChicken SoupVegetable Broth 1Vegetable Broth 2**There is even a Pintrest Board dedicated to Juice Pulp Recipes here --> http://pinterest.com/juicersbest/pulp-recipes-what-to-do-with-leftover-juice-pulp/All of these ideas are great aren't they? People are super creative beings.. Unfortunately, we don't have a garden or an oven so the bread, or the crackers won't work for us (even if we did have one, we can't eat now, so say GOOD-bye! to the soup and the dessert too!..,) And we had a little chicken but the poor fellow ran away last week, so no little birdie to feed. What can we do, you ask to be more environmentally friendly and resourceful with our pounds of pulp? Tune in tomorrow and I will tell you what solution we've encountered. :-)

Juice Fast Challenge Day 9 - Lazy Saturdays and Honey Masks

Tip of the Day: Take a naps, lots of naps when you're fasting. They are delicious and much needed when you're fasting.

Story of the Day:

Today I had great plans of organizing our house and our kitchen and life, but instead opted out for a long sweet afternoon nap. This morning, I felt all the energy in the world and was considering going for a morning run, but after making juice and cleaning a nap seemed more like the speed of the day, and since naps are highly recommended during fast to heal your bad. Who was I to fight the desire to curl up in the afternoon sun and dream?Juan joined my nap for awhile and then later he went to the mountain to catch the sunset, and then some of our friends came by the house tonight to chat.Today was nice, not so dramatic as yesterday. Juan felt better. He said he feels as if his whole body is lighter today, even his arms, he thinks that the coffee enema cleared him out. At night I fixed steamed pumpkin and onions with coconut oil for him. So his detox could slow down. We went to bed around 11 or 12 and he slept great with a few strange dreams but other than that nothing to report, except mild detox symptoms.

Honey Masks:

A few days ago Juan decided that he wanted to lighten his hair but do it using natural methods. So he went on an investigation. He found that if you mix honey, cinnamon and conditioner together that you can make a mask for your hair that will lighten it. The idea is that in honey there is a wee bit of peroxide and it works with cinnamon to lighten your hair. So we set out to try it. :-) We mixed all the delicious ingredients together and put them in our hair and waited....The results? Well... Maybe our hair is a little bit lighter, I think it might be, but one thing for sure is that my hair smells soooo good. Like Cinnamon Toast. Which make me hungry.. Where is the butter? :-)© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, Juice Cleanse, Honey Mask, Vegetables, Juice Fasting, Bleaching Hair, Turbin Juan's Stats - Juice: 3.5 Liters / Water: 3 water  Weight: 5 kg less than the start  Energy: Difficult, in the beginning of the day because he couldn’t sleep Friday night. Mood: Morning it was bad, but now it is good. Hunger: It was under control Detox Symptoms: Easy Cheats: A few bites of fruit Cravings: Everything, when he was on the phone with his mom this morning, he told her he wanted to eat meat, chicken and a river full of beans.. Hehe Inge's Stats - Juice: 2.3 Liters / Water: 1 liter or more  Weight: 3 kg less than the start  Energy: In the morning good, then after I took naps. Mood: Sleepy Hunger: Not too bad Detox Symptoms: I have a white-coated tongue. Yucky and a small red spot under my eye Cheats: Some honey Cravings: The taste of variety. In Korea our veggie and fruit choices are really limited so the juices start to taste the same after awhile.Inge's Conclusion of the Day - I’m taking another nap :-)

Juice Fast Challenge Day 8 - Coffee Enemas and Detox Dreams

© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, coffee, coffee enemas, detox symptoms, juice fastJuan's Opinion of Day 8 - I feel terrible today, I feel hot feverish, sneezy and it feel itchy like ants are walking on me. I regret that I am doing this. (Perhaps his detox is happening too fast.. and we should slow it down?)Tip of the Day: Sometimes you detox too fast and detox almost become unbearable. If that happens to you don't quit, but just slow down your detox. If you find that your detox is going too fast you can slow it down, by adding a small amount of fresh foods or cooked vegetables into your juice regime so that your body won't detox so fast.

About Detox:

Detox is the releasing of toxins from your body to make you a cleaner, healthier person. Detox is amazing, but it can be painful. Even if you feel like you're a healthy person, you might experience it. For how long and what conditions really depends on each person. For our detox we've experience bad moods, low energy, weird dreams, flu-like symptoms, itch skin and achy bodies. Detox comes in many forms headaches, strange dreams, flu-like symptoms, constipation, diarrhea, acne, bad sleep, nightmares, low energy bad moods. You can help your body remove all the nasty toxics by drinking lots of water, exercising, dry skin brushing, doing enemas, moving your bowels ;-) and taking naps. Also if you find that it is going too fast, slow the detox down by adding a bit of solid foods and/or steamed vegetables. This can help slow down the detox. This doesn't mean you've failed. Detoxing too fast can be unhealthy. Here is a great resource for slowing or speeding up detox here from ---> Detox HelpI must post this video about detox is from RawRawLife.com and Carla tells about all the things that might happen during detox. Her Detox TMI video.. Even if you have no interest in juicing or cleansing, this video is hilarious.

Detox Dreams:

We have weird vivid dreams (apparently this is normal during a detox). One dream I had, I was ordering at a McFlurry at McDonalds, but then I tragically realized that I was not able to eat it due to the fast, and I had to cancel the order. I also dreamed that someone dunked my precious hard drives (where I have keep all of my pictures) in a water, and I was trying to dry them out.. I guess that is a sign that I need to back up my hard drives again.? Every time I dream about my hard drives begin destroyed, it is my subconscious telling me to back-up! The last time I dreamed about my hard drive, I dreamt that I was on this boat in the ocean and a big whale came beside our boat an splashed so much water that my hard drives were destroyed. Interesting... Did you notice that both dreams involved my hard drive's death by water? The same night Juan dreamed that he went to a meat restaurant with his friend. He was putting the whole cut of his juicy pork cutlet into his mouth, it was oozing and goozing with deliciousness, and then suddenly he remembered that he was on our juicing fast so that he had to retract the meat from his mouth. from his mouth.. See detoxing is exciting.. hehehe

Story of the Day:

We did a coffee enema.. Scary, I know but they weren’t that bad really. I followed the instruction from Dr. Gerhauser in a youtube video here --->Video. According to advice by Jennifer Thompson Certified Iridologist from healthybliss.net , If you do decide to do a coffee enema only use organic coffee. This is important because a coffee enema is supposed to help you detox your liver. Inorganic coffee is loaded with chemicals because coffee is one of the most highly sprayed crops in the world. So use organic coffee or you're just putting pesticides straight into your colon. Not smart, and potentially harmful.Juan was very opposed to the idea of coffee enemas, so I decided to go ahead and do it. It went pretty well, nothing dramatic, I held it for 15 minutes, like recommended and then went to the toilet. Not too bad. I think liquid got trapped in the colon, so I was doing jumping up and down to try get it removed. I don't think it all quite came out, but I'm sure with a little bit of running, it will come out. Then Juan said, Ok, I want to do it too. He put the coffee in and then after 30 seconds of he said, I’ve got to go the bathroom, and I said No, just hold it. Him: Ok.... (1 minute passes) Him: I’ve got to go, really I can’t hold this.. Me: Just try. Him: No, No, I’ve got to go.. Me: Then go, Baby, hurry! (he sprints to the bathroom and I’m left on the floor rolling in laughter. That was definitely the best part of today. We shall have to try more of these enemas)Me: How do you feel after your enema?Him: EmptyThen we stayed up for a bit longer. They say that if you do it at night it might be difficult to go to sleep. Perhaps that’s true because we stayed up late, me blogging and Juan’s on the phone with his mom in the Dominican Republic.. We went to bed around 3 and then around 4am came the worst part of the day. Juan could not sleep and jumped out of bed complaining that his body felt itchy again, like ants were crawling all over his body. He couldn't stand it was so bad. It was scary. He started jumping around hitting himself, trying to cope with the itch. The itching had happened before, but never this intense. He had to go outside and to walk it off. And he came back, we drank some juice and then we went to bed. This incident got me to do more research on detox, and to see if this symptom is normal and how to control them because this wasn't something that we had expected. I looked and couldn't find any indicators of this detox symptom related with juice fasting.. Except for one person who experienced and commented on a blog. That was it. Usually when people experience this symptom it is related with menopause, or withdrawal from drugs and alcohol. None of these apply to him. Well perhaps he is a bit menopausal at times. Ha..It was weird that he experienced this. It was a bit too much for me. I know we are supposed to be detoxing but.... So upon research I saw that if you are experiencing a detox that is too rapid then slow it down with eating a bit of steamed vegetables or natural solid food. You will still continue detoxing, just at a more manageable less frightening pace. The new plan is to continue to juice for 15 days, but at night I will cook him some steamed vegetables and then dress them with olive oil and herbs for flavor. Let's see how that goes. Also, I'm forcing him to drink more water! Please share any detox stories. I'm curious, if anyone has ever experienced this symptom or a weird one?

STATS OF THE DAY:

Inge’s Stats —Juice: 1.8 Liters / Water: a little bit.. I'm going to go drink some more now  Weight: 3 kg less than the start  Energy: Pretty good, in the morning low but in the afternoon and night high Mood: Up and down. It was ok, nothing extreme still trying to be patient with myself because I want for more things to happen faster, I want to see more results or more detox symptoms for me but everything is quite mild. Even the effects of the coffee enema were so easy and mild. So sometimes this makes me wonder one of two things 1) that I’m not doing it right or 2) that I am already pretty clean so I don’t see huge effects for awhile. But like I said yesterday. I need to be patient. But I'm thankful that my symptoms are not as severe as Juan's.. Hunger: A little bit Detox Symptoms: Not any that I can remember Cheats: I don't think anything Cravings: A little bit of everything. I miss cooking, and I am getting tired of the juice taste. I really enjoyed drinking juice before breakfast, but sometimes it gets tiring to constantly feel like you're making juice and drinking juice.Juan's Stats — Juice: 5-6 Liters / Water: 3 cups  Weight: 4 kg less than the start  Energy: Up and Down Mood: Up and down Hunger: After lunch hunger started Detox Symptoms: Feverish, sneezy, lots of sleep in his eyes, and itchy like ants are walking on me. Cheats: A melon Cravings: His freedom to eat and a Nachos and Cheese Volcano.Inge's Conclusion of the Day - I'm making steamed vegetables for Juan tomorrow night to help reduce his detox symptoms.Juan's Conclusion of the Day - Oh Baby! I love you and proceeds to kiss my feet.. (true story, you could say that we both have over-dramatic sides)

Juice Fast Challenge: Day 7 - Give Your Veggies a Shower!

© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, Wash Your Veggies, How to wash your vegetables, Juice Challenge, Juice Cleanse

Tip of the Day:

Today I must preach out cleaning your veggies! Because who really wants bacteria in their awesome juice? That would be just unnecessary. There are many opinion out there on how to do it the best way. Some say buy veggie wash, others say make veggie wash and others say just use distilled water. I'll give you the instructions both ways.. Making your own vinegar wash and just using distilled water.A study done by the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Maine with blueberries found that using distilled water or commercial veggie washes had the same effect on taking away the bacteria. They suggest that you use distilled or bottled water because they are purified and will no longer contaminate your vegetables. However there was another study done by "Journal of Food Protection" which said that vinegar really helped reduce the salmonella on vegetables more than just washing with water and another by Jack Bishop “Cook’s Illustrated”  found that a vinegar water solution reduces 98% of the bacteria on the surface of fresh produce. (Believe who you'd like, but here is how to wash your produce in water and also by vinegar, for your convenience. )

Washing with Water

Wash your hands with hot soapy water and other surfaces that might touch your lovely produce. Don't use detergents because they can leave residues Scrub the vegetables that have a thick skin - cucumbers, apples, carrots Put the vegetables with large surface area in cold water for 2 minutes - lettuce, broccoli, spinach Put the delicate fruits in a colander and run cold water over them and refrigerate them - strawberries, blueberries, raspberries.

Vinegar Wash

Instructions from NPR1. Use a 3:1 solution of water and vinegar2. Then put the solution in a spray bottle.3. Spray your veggies/fruits with enough solution to cover the vegetable4. Then rinse with cold water to remove any vinegar residue5. To wash leafy greens, fill up a bucket or your sink with the vinegar and water solution, soak the vegetables in the solution then drain and rinse. Juan's Thought of Day 7 : "Can I eat yet?"Inge's Thought of Day 7 : "Why aren't things happening faster?" Story of the Day 7:Today wasn't bad for me it was pretty uneventful really on the juicing front. Nothing crazy to report on the detox front. Which perhaps is good, but I felt a little bit down because I got to thinking that what if after 7 days why hadn't I saw big detox symptoms or huge improvements, and what if of this 15 days of doing just juicing that it doesn't work? I don't see any big detox symptoms a few - like fever and low-energy - but nothing crazy. So I started to worry that now on day 7, what if nothing really changes by the time I get to day 15 wouldn't that be terrible?, wouldn't that be just awful..? My inner-self moaned??But actually when I stepped back and looked at it with the less dramatic, more logical Inge then, I see that 15 to try something out isn't that bad. It's quite short. I'm not losing much and regardless of the results, I'm learning a lot in the process about health, food, how to organize life, etc. And to top it off, I'm getting to do my own investigative project and not just depend on testimonials. So I shall try to be more logical and patient with myself and keep the juice coming. :-)Other than my impatience with myself, Juan made another super delicious juice today! I think he definitely has more talent in the juice making area between the two of us. He should have open a juice bar.

Except when I went out shopping, everything I saw looked good. The Chinese food, the coffee with whip cream that the girl was drinking on the street, and then I saw the blessed Basket Robbins sign and I thought to myself, Wow! you know maybe ice cream is allowed because it isn't solid, right?. But thank goodness my conscious caught up with me before I did anything too rash.Juan's Stats --- Juice: 4 Liters Water: 1 liter Weight: 3.5 kg less than start Energy: Up and Down Mood: Bad Hunger: Hungry Detox Symptoms: Sneezy, Mucus, Flu-Like Symptoms  Cravings: He doesn't remember Cheats: Nothing.

Keep going!Stats of the Day: Inge Stats --- Juice: 2.5 Liters / Water: 2 liters ^^ Weight: 3 kg less than the start  Energy: Low and Medium  Mood: Ok Hunger: At lunch I was super hungry but after I drank a little bit of juice, all was good. Detox Symptoms: More feverish symptoms, and the brain didn't seem to want to think that much  Cheats: I was good Cravings: Not so much. Even though I'm drinking a lot I feel really thirsty, which I find odd, but this made me drink more water.Juan's Stats --- Juice: 4 Liters Water: He doesn't care, he's in a bad mood Weight: 3.5 kg less than start Energy: Good Mood: Bad Hunger: Hungry Detox Symptoms: Sneezy, Mucus, Flu-Like Symptoms  Cravings: The Chicken Craving Continues Cheats: He was pretty angelic too. He chewed a bit of rice and then spit it out again. So I'm pretty sure, he's sin free. :-)Story of the Day 6: The detox continues, it seems. For most of the day, I felt a bit feverish and with low energy, and Juan is still sneezy and is unhappy today about our lack of mastication and the detox effects. I told him that he should do a coffee enema. He didn't appreciate that idea. Ha! But I'm thinking that on Friday I will break down and do a coffee enema to help my liver detox better. We'll see. I got special organic coffee just for that. Though I'm honestly a bit scared to try it out. But people who do it say that it is the next best thing to sliced bread, so we shall see. Most of the day I had low energy, until the end of the day. Then I got this surge of energy. I think it was because every Wednesday night we have Bible study and dinner at our house. Our friends came over to help clean and cook. Just being around them gave me energy, and even though they were cooking delicious food. I didn't mind it. I was also caught up in the moment of being with them (15 people came!) and organizing everything that forgot about my cravings, my fever, and the hunger. Thank goodness.Weirdly enough the food didn't really tempt me much. We've been on this for 6 days. This really encourages me to keep it up. I can't go back now. I'm too far in. Also it helps just to focus on your goal, and why you want to achieve it. Don't entertain unhealthy what ifs. Unhealthy "what ifs" make life more difficult when you're trying to achieve a goal.. For example I wish I could eat that.. Oh, that smells good... Oh just one little bite, etc., The key is to just say, "no" immediately and don't torture yourself dreaming about what is off-limits. Then you have much less room for waffling back and forth. This principal can be applied to any area of your life.At the Bible study and I think that we have more people considering adding Green Juice or Green Smoothies into their diet! We're evangelizing the people! We gave them a test taste, and they really liked it. Also one thing too note is that you don't need to do a 15-day fast in order to benefit from juicing. You can just start making one green juice or smoothie every morning with breakfast or for dinner. This will give you great energy and vitamins and keep you healthy. So no excuses. It's easy. If you have a blender or a juicer, then go out and buy some spinach. ;)Today is over. I hope that tomorrow is better.Favorite Juice(s) of the Day: Pumpkin Juice with Greens was nice. Also we made a Pizza Juice.. No, no, we didn't put a pizza in the juicer. We're not that desperate.... yet.....

Pizza Juice:

TomatoesGreen PepperOnionCucumberBasilYum! Now we just need a vegetable that tastes like cheese to add to the mix.Our Improvements So Far: Today more detox, not so much fun, but I guess with no pain there will be no gain.. Boo!Goals for Tomorrow: Keep drinking water, drink more juice, and get more organized with my juicing and life in general.

Juice Fast Challenge: Day 5 - Juice Your Greens :-)

© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, juicing cleanse, juice, greens, leafy greens, healthy in korea Tip of the Day: Drink Green, Why? They are so good for you! Green Leafy plants, like spinach, kale, parsley are really powerful. They have Vitamins C, K, E, and A, micronutrients, minerals like calcium and magnesium, and even protein. Crazy right? They are know to give you amazing energy, fight cancer, help your heart, your blood, your bones, almost anything and everything. Also I heard that if  juice enough of them, then you may fly like Superman! It's true. I think it will take me about 2 more weeks of juicing greens to fly. :-)Even professionals say so..."Greens are the No. 1 food you can eat regularly to help improve your health," says Jill Nussinow, MS, RD, a culinary educator in Northern California and the author of The Veggie Queen.See, I told you that they are amazing. So throw a couple of handfuls of this into your juice or smoothies every day.Types of Greens to Juice:- Spinach (preferably baby spinach)- Kale- Swiss chard- Collard greens- Dandelion greens- Turnip greens- Beat greens- Parsley- Arugula- Romaine lettuce- Green and red leaf lettuceResource:Benefits of Every Leafy Green Vegetables:5 Tips for Juicing GreensStory of Day 5: Ok so onto today, I focused on drinking more green juice. I'm trying to follow what I preach. I made an especially mean juice in the morning. I really put spinach, pumpkin leaves, broccoli into my juice, and only a bit of apple in our juice. I felt an immediate difference. Not in the way I wanted to though. I ran straight to the toilet. Ha! I think I accidentally started my body's detox, because throughout the day, I started to feel a little woozy, feverish, and my head was cloudy. The chlorophyl in the greens did a good job.I heard before that normal people usually start to detox on day 2 or 3, but apparently I'm not normal. I should have figured that out by now. On day 2 and 3, I was ready to detox! I thought on day 2 and 3 I would Boom! Detox on the weekend, and then when Monday and Tuesday came around, I would be home-free. Nope. Not my case. Detox didn't happen on day 2 and 3 so I thought, Awesome! I won't experience detox! In my juice cleanse, I will just experience the awesomeness of more energy and baby-butt skin. I was seriously mistaken. Today it started. Lame.So just a hint to someone who wants to do this. Greens start detox (add greens little-by-little so you don't experience detox too fast) and everyone's body is different. Some people detox early, some late, some for a long time and others for a short time. Just depends on the person. So don't worry if you're reacting outside the normal schedule. Their really is no normal schedule. So in the end, today's goal of drinking more greens was good but also kicked me in the butt. However, we're still fighting, and we're going to continue drinking the greens. Because of course their amazing, but wow today they were a bit too amazing today. :) But anywho, if we're doing 15 days of this detox, then we might as well really get clean, clean, clean. No weakness allowed.Juan's Opinion of Day 5 : "I just feel like nothing is happening, and I have the flu. "Inge's Opinion of Day 5: "I feel woozy. "Stats of the Day: Inge Stats --- Juice: 2.5 Liters / Water: 2 liters ^^ Weight: 2 kg less than the start  Energy: Low and Medium  Mood: It wasn't bad Hunger: I was hungry at points, but I felt too lazy to make juice at times. Detox Symptoms: Fever and felt a little weird.  Cheats: I was an angel today. Thank-you very much! Cravings: Nothing to speak of, I don't feel like I'm craving much. Just at times I want to chew the apple that I'm about to put into the juicer. or especially the amazing watermelon. Yum.Juan's Stats --- Juice: 4 Liters Water: 1 liter Weight: 2.5 kg less than start Energy: Good Mood: Ok  Hunger: Very hungry Detox Symptoms: Sneezy, Mucus, Flu-Like Symptoms  Cravings: Chicken, Chicken and more Chicken Cheats: He was an angel too.Favorite Juice(s) of the Day: It was a busy day so we didn't have any crazy new juice try-outs.. We focused on green juices. Our Improvements So Far: Today I can't say that I feel improvements, unless our detox symptoms are considered improvements. Then yes, we are improving, a lot! Ha!Goals for Tomorrow: Drink more water. Keep drinking green and stay positive and keep my mind thinking long term.

Juice Fast Challenge: Day 4 - $$$

© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, cucumbers, budget juicing, juicing in south korea, reboot with joe cross, health in korea, juicing cleanse.Cost Saving Tip of the Day: How do you save money when you juice? Look for sales! When something is on sale, just go crazy and buy, buy, buy, buy! And don't worry if the clerk lady in the supermarket thinks you're nuts for buying 50 cucumbers at a time. It's a free country. (Well, I hope so!) Also choose the produce that is in season and available in your area/country.In Korea we don't have the variety of vegetable/fruit options like the USA or the Dominican Republic. We have to work at buying smarter, but if we buy in the street market and buy the vegetables that are in season, we can stretch our dollar (won) super far. And the street market people will give you a nice discount too, if you woo them enough with your foreign charms and a few nice Korean phrases. ~ buying a lot and being a regular customer helps too. ;-)Story of Day Four : Today I set out to find what we spend in a day for juicing. It is cheaper or more expensive than a regular day of eating for us? Today we had a variety of Juices. Here is the run down of the day with produce cost attached.Green Pepper Carrot Tomato Juice = 2 Green Peppers, 6 Carrots, 4 Med Tomatoes $3 =  24oz of juiceMean Green Juice = 10 cucumbers, 4 apples, 2 lemons, a ginger knuckle, 25 leaves of Spinach, 25 leaves of lettuce = $7.5 = 78 oz of juiceJuan's Special Juice = 3 kiwis, 1 bag of spinach, 4 cucumbers, 2 apples, 1 small peach, 3 bananas = $5.50 = 40 ozPumpkin Cucumber Juice = 10 cucumbers, 1/2 Korean pumpkin, 1 carrot, 2 apples, 1 banana, ginger, 1/2 spinach, 1/2 lemon = $6 = 65 ozTomato Spinach Juice = 2 handfuls of spinach, 4-5 medium tomatoes, 3 green peppers = $2.50 = 20ozToday's Total = $24.50 = 227 oz of juice or 1.8 gallons of juice$24.50 for two people to drink juice isn't bad. If you're single only about 12-15$ a day., very doable. I think that this is a bit more than when we eat only at home, but less than days that we go out to eat. Also we are getting many more nutrients and fresh foods then in a normal day. The key to juicing on a budget is to know what fruits and vegetables are available in your area. In Korea, you can't go out and buy cilantro or celery or green apples here unless we travel far and/or spending a lot of money, but we can buy romaine lettuce and spinach and Pumpkin Leaves easily. There are almost always nutrition substitutes. You just have to look for them.Juicing Resource : Here is a great resource I found today from Reboot with Joe Cross. It is detailed plan for a juice cleanses from 3-15 days, with shopping lists attached. Modify to fit your produce availability and budget. I want to sleep. ^^"Stats of the Day: Inge Stats --- Juice: 2.5 Liters / Water: 1.5 liters ^^ Weight: 1.2 pounds less than the start  Energy: Medium, but pretty consistent, much like yesterday. I got tired early in the nigh, though. I've been having lots of dreams which is affecting the quality of my sleep.  Mood: It was good. I stressed myself out in the morning a bit, but it was no big deal. Hunger: It wasn't too bad today, except for right now, I'm really hungry and thirsty and right now someone is eating potatoes and ketchup. The smell is coming into my window right now. Not cool, not cool. Cheats: I was pretty good today.. Oh.. except for a bit of honey and cinnamon.. I can't escape it. It's soooo good. Cravings: I wanted chocolate today. Hot Chocolate, and a hot salty broth. That would be nice.Juan's Stats --- Juice: 4 Liters Water: .5 liters or less Weight: 2.4 pounds less than start Energy: Good Mood: Good  Hunger: It was better than yesterday, especially at night time. Fell asleep at 11 pm instead of 3am, like the night before. Detox Symptoms: Sneezy, Mucus, Flu-Like Symptoms / Weird Food Dreams Again Cravings: Doesn't want to tell me the food that he craves, because then he'll crave it more.Favorite Juice(s) of the Day: Juan's Fruit/Spinach Juice.. It was amazing :-) It didn't follow the 80% vegetable/20% fruit juice rule, but it was amazing and worth the rule breaking. And I think that we needed a wee vacation from our usual green juice. Our Improvements So Far: Same like yesterday a more consistent energy. Though I don't think that my body likes the banana in the juice. It's probably too sugary and my energy levels aren't as consistent as yesterday. I guess I'll have to return to green juice. Tomorrow I'll be hardcore, no weak fruit juices. Promise! I'll go green tomorrow. :-)Goals for Tomorrow: Drink primarily green juices and drink more water. I think this will increase the detox and boost my energy more. Also I will drink more water, and have hot water and lemon every morning.

Juice Fast Challenge: Day 3 - Think Long Term

© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, health in Korea, juicing, juice fast, fun, vegetables, fruit© www.ingekathleen.com/blog, health in Korea, juicing, juice fast, fun, vegetables, fruit© ingekathleen.com/blog, health in Korea, juicing, juice fast, fun, vegetables, fruit Tip of the Day:  Ok so Day 3 isn't so easy. You're hungry, tired, achy and you feel like a fish in vat of green juice. What's worse is that there are 12 days to go and that seems discouraging,. This is exactly when you need to think long term. Fifteen days is nothing. Fifteen days is only 1/2 of a month and 4.16% of a year. You're just taking 4.16% of one year to clean the insides of your body.  Not so bad, right? How much time do you spend cleaning your house? or your car? Probably a lot more time, and what is more important your house or your body? Also, think, What benefits will you gain from cleansing? Many things but let's pick one: --> More energy. And more energy means that you will have more energy to be amazing parent to your kids, to be a good boss and a better person. Because when you're tired and worn out, it is quite hard to really love people well. Remember 15 days is nothing, for you, your health and the people around you.Story of Day Two: From what people say Day 2 and 3 are the hardest of days of the fast. I think Day 2 wins in evilness for me. I had all sorts of cravings for anything and everything dry and salty. Mostly crackers and Pizza too. Day 3 was a bit easier. I woke up early, was immediately hungry, so I drank hot lemon water to detox, cleaned a bit and read the Bible, and then made a pumpkin green pepper juice. It was amazing! But I used almost a whole pumpkin, and I only was rewarded with maybe, 12 ounces of juice. Apparently pumpkins don't have too much water, but the juice was amazing so I didn't care. Though I had to make a Mean Green Juice to make up for the meager returns on my Pumpkin juice.Simple Pumpkin Green Pepper Juice  Sweet Green Pumpkin - 3/4 of a medium pumpkinGreen Pepper - 2 whole peppersBut back to today.... It was a Sunday so after juicing and daily chores. Juan and I went to church armed with our green juice.Another tip: When you go out, try to bring a juice with you so that you're not tempted by all the yummy food around you.We made it through church without committing any sins, i.e. eating someone's arm. We were angels, and it was great. The pastor talked about as Christians how we should love both God and People. They go hand-in-hand. You can't love God without loving people. Loving and investing in people is more important than a good career, money or going to church everyday. Jesus died for people. He didn't die for money, a career, or pretty church building. He died for people. Here was the pastor's killer question: What are you investing in, things or people? Zing! ::cough, cough:: Furthermore, he said... How can you do better to invest in people this week and in your life? Something, I want to think about. After church we rushed home to eat our juice, then crashed for a nice 2.5 hour Sunday nap. It was amazing and highly needed. After we wiped the drool from our faces, we went to a going away party, but we arrived 2 hours late so that we could avoid watching people eat delicious, chewable food. Our evil plan worked. Very little masticable food was in sight when arrived. Then we started evangelizing our friends on the amazing benefits of juicing. I think we have a few more converts. Go us! We came home, and I crashed around 12, but Juan was too hungry to sleep and had a few flu-like symptoms thanks to the detox.. He finally went to lalaland at 3 or 4 am.Juan's Opinion of Day 3 : "I just feel hungry. I don't feel any improvement at all."Inge's Opinion of Day 3: "Don't be so dramatic, baby. ^^"Stats of the Day: Inge Stats --- Juice: 2.5 Liters / Water: 1.5 liters ^^ Weight: 1.2 pounds less than the start  Energy: Medium, but pretty consistent, but I got tired in the late afternoon and around 10pm. Once or twice I felt a little light headed when I got up too quickly Mood: Mostly good  Hunger: It wasn't too bad today. I think I'm used to it. Though I probably should drink juice more often when I'm hungry. Sometimes I get stubborn and prefer hunger to drinking more. Detox Symptoms: None, except weird dreams, more about that later. Cravings: I wanted to chew something, especially watermelon or apples. Cheats: A couple TBS of farm honey again. It's just so delicious, and it doesn't seem to be so evil, right? Raw, Farm honey..Juan's Stats --- Juice: 4 Liters Water: .5 liters or less Weight: 2.4 pounds less than start Energy: Good Mood: Good  Hunger: It was hard, especially at night, it made it hard to sleep. Couldn't sleep until 3 am Detox Symptoms: Sneezy, Flu-Like Symptoms Cravings: Pasta Cheats: A couple of Midnight Peaches again. :-)Favorite Juice(s) of the Day: The Pumpkin Juice was again the favorite. I only got about 12 ounces of juice, but it was a delicious break from our regular green juice menu. :-)Our Improvements So Far: More consistent energy. My energy isn't super high yet, but it is more consistent, and I have less cravings. Before I started juicing, I had almost always want to drink coffee after breakfast or after lunch to boost my energy, but when I drink green juice it gives me a much more steady, healthy energy than coffee. Also we unexpectedly have sweeter breath. Instead of garlic-kimchi breath, we have carrot/apple breath, I'd say that's a nice surprise.

Day 2 ~ Special Juicing Visitor:Our dear friend and first Brazilian juicing convert came over today to make her first juice. She lives in the university dormitory, so we told her to buy fruits and vegetables and come to our house everyday to make a juice for breakfast. She listened to our preaching. She is our 2nd juicing-convert, we have another one from Guatemala and we're working on winning a few more from Korea and the Dominican Republic.Let me allow her to properly introduce herself,"Hello I'm Chan Mi Michelle Lee, I'm from Brazil, but my parents are Korean. So that is why my face looks like this."Chan Mi made a delicious juice. Try it out.Chan Mi Special Juice Recipe2 cucumbers2 green peppers5-6 leaves of lettuce1 big apple2 medium/large tomatoes

Tip of the Day: Day 2 is hard, mentally. So stay far away from temptations and think about all the beautiful benefits you will get when you complete the fast. i.e. more energy=lower Starbucks bill, baby-butt skin, silky hair, better digestion, less joint pain, better health = lower doctor's bills = longer life :-) So don't cave in today, tomorrow will be better.Story of Day Two: So day two wasn't so easy.  I was expecting that I would have all of these terrible detox symptoms, and that I'd be laid-out in bed, with a snotty nose, fever or a headache, and sleeping all day as my body was detoxing.. But no, not even one symptom! I had full energy today. What is so terrible about that, you ask?You see, I wanted to feel the pains of detox, so that I could feel like, "Oh yes, I feel detox pain, I embrace the pain, the toxins are leaving my body! Mwhahahaha!" But unfortunately, this has not been my detox struggle. It has been worse for me. God has chosen me to fight the mental battle. Darn.Today, I felt fine. Just hungry and I didn't want to drink anything. It didn't feel appetizing. In general, I don't like drinking beverages that much. I never drink anything with meals, and I have to force myself to drink water. I usually get my liquids through eating lots of fruits and vegetables. I am realized that just drinking liquids all day isn't that appealing to me. But who care? I'm still going to finish the 15-days.Also I usually crave fresh foods, like fruits and vegetables, but instead today I started to crave dry foods. I was thinking, oh man, wouldn't a nice salty, dry cracker be amazing right now? A couple of days ago, Juan dreamt about a picture of pizza. Not even an actually pizza, but a photograph of it.. hahaha.. It was as if it was taunting him.. Look, look, look what you can have. I think our brains are cruel.I also wanted pizza today. Cheese Pizza. Yum. :-)Moving on....At points today, I was really hungry, but I preferred to be hungry and not to drink anything, than to quench my hunger. I don't like to be hungry. I rarely, rarely miss a meal. But I must dislike drinking lots of liquids more than hunger... Even still, I tried to drink juice even when I had no desire for it. I kept reminding myself that I needed the nutrients. I did, ok., but I failed terribly drinking water.. I think that I drank 8 ounces.. My excuse? In Korea you have to drink bottled water, so there was no water in the house and I didn't feel like leaving the house to walk  5 mins down the hill to buy water. Especially when I felt like I was a drowning fish in an ocean of juice, but don't worry tomorrow is Sunday and I'll do better!Stats of the Day: Inge Stats --- Juice: 2.5 Liters / Water: 8-12 oz (I failed miserably on drinking more water) But tomorrow, I'll drink so much that I'll be a fish! ^^ Weight: 50kg  Energy: Good  Mood: Up and Down  Hunger: A lot - Because I was tired of drinking Detox Symptoms: None really Cravings: Crackers and Pizza Cheats: A couple of TBS of farm honey (I'm not sure if that is a cheat or legal?)Juan's Stats --- Juice: 4 Liters Water: A Little Bit Weight: 86 kg Energy:  Better than Yesterday Mood: Good   Hunger:  Sometimes, but not that much Detox Symptoms: None Cravings: Dominican Chicken Cheats: A couple of PeachesInge's Favorite Juice(s) of the Day: Pumpkin & Green Pepper.. Sounds odd, but it was good. I'm going to experiement more with Pumpkin :-) and Chan Mi's Special JuiceJuan's Favorite Juice(s) of the Day: Carrot/Ginger/Watermelon JuiceThe conclusion of the day: We watched the Motorcycle Diaries while drinking our Green Juice dinner on a Saturday night. Happy that day 2 is over. Finished! We're more than 10% done, and looking forward to day 4 and 5 when people say that it starts to get easy.

Juice Fast Challenge: Day 1

Tip of the Day: If at all possible stay in your home the first few days of the fast so the evil people in the world don't tempt you with food. If you go out you run the risk that any food, I mean any food, even the food you normally thing is just gross, will all of the sudden appear sooooo delicious. So do yourself a favor.. Start this on the weekend and stay home! ^^Story of Day One:  We've completed day one! :-) Asah! (is a Korea way to say, Hoorah!) So happy! The day wasn't so bad. I didn't experience many detox symptoms, at one point of the day, I think my temperature was higher than normal, but not too much. I think the worst part for me was just the mental battles. Like at lunchtime there were all these delicious smells coming from our neighbor's house. That was painful. After our green breakfast juice, Juan got a nasty fever, and went back to bed for 4 hours to sleep it off. When he woke up, I was annoyingly cheery and energetic, and he asked me why I wasn't suffering like him. "Perhaps, I'm cleaner than you?" I said. But for some reason, he didn't seem to appreciate that conclusion so much. hehehe :-) But I really should practice more humility, because the detox will probably hit me in a couple of days and I need him to feel sorry for me when I'm sick in bed and he's jumping off the walls. Most of the day we relaxed, drank lots of juice and rested because the cornerstone of a juice fast is to clean and restore your body. Rest is an essential part of it. You can't heal properly if you're not allow it to rest. So we had a perfectly lazy day.The only hiccup in the day was when we went to church for a meeting and they were serving dinner. Chinese food!We arrived with our beautiful liter-jugs of green juice and Juan told me he had been craving jajamyeon (a Korean-Chinese food) for a long time, so this might be difficult. When we got to church and the food arrived, Juan started to say..,  Oh that looks good!, oohh what did you order? Wow that smells good! and then finally Inge, why didn't we start tomorrow!?!Eventually he left the room with his green juice to maintain his sanity. He returned an hour later. hehehe.Luckily, I don't like Chinese food. So it wasn't so hard for me. Though in order not to feel deprived of chewing, I just imagined how gross and unhealthy and energy-sucking Chinese delivery food is and how terrible I would feel if I ate it, and how it would certainly make them all have to spend their days in the hospital for eating Chinese food. (Yes, I'm dramatic, I know, but I have to play mind games with myself, so I don't feel deprived.)We made it through the meetings, we were both really hungry and left as fast as possible so that we wouldn't eat someone's arm off. We made it home, no arms were injured, just a few fingers were munched. ;) At home we made our last juice of the day and ended the night in success. Only 14 more days to go :-)The conclusion of the day: Inge: So how does it feel to finish day one? Juan: Good, it wasn't so bad, I mean I don't feel good, but.... Me: What do you mean, how do you feel bad? Juan: I don't want to talk about it. (Ha! Well, the Chinese food must have been more traumatic than I thought. But we made it!)Stats of the Day: Inge: Drank about 3 - 3.5 liters of juice. And 1 - 1.5 liters of water. (tomorrow I want to drink more water).Juan: 5+ liters of juice, and 1 liter of water. Favorite Juice of the Day: Inge: Carrot, Apple and Ginger. (I'm learning that I like the simple juices, those that don't have too many ingredients. The taste is cleaner and more fresh.)Juan: Doesn't remember. (We had a big mix of different juices.
